Allianz Life Confirms Major Cyberattack, Personal Data of Many Affected Customers Stolen

Allianz Life, a major U.S. insurance company, has confirmed that hackers accessed and stole the personal information of the majority of its customers, financial professionals, and employees during a cyberattack in mid-July 2025. The breach, which occurred on July 16, targeted a third-party cloud-based CRM system, exposing personally identifiable information. Allianz Life has approximately 1.4 million customers, though the company did not specify how many were directly affected. The breach was attributed to a malicious actor using social engineering techniques, such as tricking helpdesk employees. Despite the breach, Allianz Life has stated there is no evidence that other internal systems were compromised. This breach adds Allianz Life to a growing list of companies in the insurance sector hit by similar attacks, with a hacking group called Scattered Spider being linked to many of these intrusions. The company has notified the FBI and plans to inform affected individuals by August 1. Allianz Life’s parent company, Allianz, serves over 125 million customers worldwide. The breach comes amid an increasing wave of cyberattacks targeting the insurance industry, including other companies like Aflac.
