AllTrails introduces premium plan with AI-powered trail customization and real-time forecasts

AllTrails, a leading hiking and biking app recognized as Apple’s 2023 iPhone App of the Year, has launched a new premium membership tier called ‘Peak’. Priced at $80 annually, this tier introduces advanced AI features aimed at enhancing user experiences on trails. The standout feature is smart routing, which allows users to create or modify trails using AI to adjust aspects like length, steepness, and scenic value. The app now also offers real-time trail condition forecasts, integrating weather data such as temperature, precipitation, snow depth, air quality, and even mosquito activity. A future update will include ground condition data.

Another notable addition is a heatmap feature that displays trail traffic levels based on aggregated user data, helping users choose between busy or quiet routes. The ‘Outdoor Lens’ tool will allow users to identify and catalog plants, trees, and flowers using their smartphone camera, with plans to expand this functionality over time.

The Peak tier will launch to select users in the coming weeks and will be globally available by June 2025. Existing Base and Plus membership plans are also receiving updates, including Points of Interest (over 500,000 landmarks and amenities) and Offline Area tools for custom offline map downloads. With over 80 million users worldwide, AllTrails’ expansion of features comes in response to growing competition from Apple’s own mapping tools.
