Samsung Unveils S25 Edge: Its Slimmest Flagship Smartphone with Advanced AI Features

Samsung Electronics has introduced its slimmest flagship smartphone to date, the S25 Edge, aiming to strengthen its position in the premium smartphone market and outpace rival Apple. The S25 Edge, featuring a 6.7-inch display and a remarkably thin 5.8 mm body, is designed to meet the growing demand among younger consumers for more portable devices that do not compromise on performance. Samsung achieved this slim form factor by redesigning internal components such as the printed circuit board and thermal systems. The device also incorporates advanced AI capabilities, including multimodal AI that enables real-time interaction through vision and voice, allowing users to ask questions using the camera. The S25 Edge will be available in South Korea starting May 23 and in the United States from May 30, with plans to launch in about 30 countries, including China and various European markets. Priced from $1,099, the model is slightly larger but only marginally heavier than the basic S25. Samsung addressed concerns over potential performance or overheating issues, assuring that a thinner vapor chamber was engineered to maintain efficiency. The launch is seen as a strategic move to pre-empt Apple’s expected release of a thinner iPhone later this year, potentially attracting consumers seeking slimmer devices. In the first quarter of 2025, Samsung surpassed Apple as the world’s top smartphone vendor, capturing 20% of the global market. However, the company has cautioned that second-quarter shipments could be impacted by tariff-related risks.
