Amazon Acquires Fauna Robotics, a Startup Creating Kid-Size Humanoid Robots for the Home

Amazon has acquired Fauna Robotics, a two-year-old startup focused on creating kid-sized humanoid robots. Founded by former Meta and Google engineers, Fauna has developed a 59-pound bipedal robot named Sprout, which is currently being shipped to select research partners. This acquisition comes shortly after Amazon’s purchase of Rivr, an autonomous robotics startup. Fauna’s expertise in humanoid robots aligns with Amazon’s broader robotics goals, adding new capabilities to its existing portfolio. The company’s founders and employees will join Amazon’s team in New York, where they plan to leverage Amazon’s vast resources to enhance their vision of creating safe and enjoyable robots. Although the terms of the deal were not disclosed, Amazon has expressed excitement about the potential to integrate these new robots into their home-oriented technology, which already includes retail and device businesses. With this move, Amazon is doubling down on its robotics division, making significant strides in the competitive humanoid robotics field.
