Apple Postpones Siri AI Upgrade to iOS 26.4, Now Expected in March 2026

Apple is now aiming to release its revamped Siri with advanced AI capabilities as part of iOS 26.4, tentatively scheduled for March 2026. This update marks a significant delay from the original plan, which targeted a fall 2024 rollout. The project has faced multiple internal setbacks, including engineering challenges involving a hybrid system architecture that reportedly failed about a third of the time. These technical issues contributed to repeated delays, moving the goalpost from early 2025 to May, and now to next spring.

In a recent WWDC keynote, Craig Federighi acknowledged the delays, stating that the new Siri needed more time to meet Apple’s quality standards. No public demo or detailed update was offered during the event. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that internal leadership has shifted, with AI chief John Giannandrea being sidelined in favor of Federighi and Vision Pro lead Mike Rockwell. The core Siri technology, referred to internally as “Siri LLM,” is being rebuilt from the ground up.

Looking ahead, Apple envisions Siri as a proactive digital copilot with deeper integration into user data and system-wide contexts. There are also internal efforts to develop a chatbot-style app named Knowledge, which may utilize web data for enhanced functionality. While the March 2026 target is unofficial, it’s the most realistic timeframe given current progress—assuming no further setbacks.
