Apple Unveils ‘Liquid Glass’ Design Hinting at Future AR Glasses Integration

At WWDC 2025, Apple revealed a major UI redesign called ‘Liquid Glass’, marking its most significant visual change in over a decade. The update introduces semi-transparent, reflective window elements that mirror the design language of Apple’s Vision Pro VR headset. Although the Vision Pro did not achieve widespread adoption due to its high price and niche use case, its mixed reality user experience has influenced this new direction.

The Liquid Glass design is expected to be a foundational element in Apple’s upcoming AR glasses, rumored to launch in 2026. These glasses are anticipated to feature integrated cameras, microphones, speakers, and built-in Siri functionality, providing hands-free assistance for tasks like calls, music playback, navigation, and real-time translation. Notifications and overlays would be subtly blended into the user’s view to avoid disrupting their real-world environment.

This move positions Apple to compete with Meta’s smart Ray-Bans and Google’s new smart glasses initiative. While not much is confirmed about the AR glasses, the adoption of Liquid Glass is a clear step toward a more immersive, mixed reality interface. Apple’s emphasis on elegant, user-centric design could give it an edge in the evolving AR wearables space.
