UK introduces age verification for adult websites, but experts question effectiveness

Starting this Friday, around 6,000 adult websites in the UK will be required to verify if users are over 18, as part of new measures implemented by the media regulator Ofcom. Critics also worry that the rules could push people toward less regulated platforms, potentially exposing them to harmful content. Furthermore, concerns have been raised about privacy risks for individuals who may have to provide personal identification for age verification. While some sites claim they do not store this information, others warn about the possibility of misuse.
