Pronto.ai Acquires SafeAI to Expand Autonomous Off-Road Vehicle Technology
Pronto.ai, a San Francisco-based startup specializing in autonomous driving systems for off-road vehicles in construction and mining, has acquired competitor SafeAI. The acquisition, details of which remain undisclosed, is aimed at boosting Pronto’s engineering capabilities and expanding its technology portfolio. SafeAI, a 12-person startup founded in 2017, brings valuable expertise in multi-sensor technology, including lidar, radar, and cameras, which Pronto plans to integrate into its existing autonomous haulage system. Pronto has primarily used a camera-only approach so far, but the acquisition will allow them to offer a more comprehensive solution with additional sensors for safety and functionality. The acquisition is also seen as a strategic move to increase Pronto’s global reach, including expansion into international markets such as Brazil. Pronto has already seen success in the U.S. with a partnership with Heidelberg Materials, where its autonomous trucks have been deployed in mining operations. By combining forces with SafeAI, Pronto aims to better compete in the growing autonomous haulage market and enhance its offerings for both small quarries and large mines. The deal also helps Pronto address customer demands for scalable, safe, and effective autonomous transportation solutions in the mining and construction industries.
