Belkin to End Support for Older Wemo Smart Devices Starting in 2026
Belkin has announced it will stop providing technical support for most of its older Wemo smart devices starting January 31, 2026. This decision will impact numerous Wemo products, making them no longer controllable via the Wemo app. Additionally, features reliant on cloud connectivity—such as remote access and voice assistant integrations—will cease to function. While four newer, Thread-based Wemo devices will remain unaffected, the move is a significant blow for many users of older smart home technology. Some devices that will lose support are not even three years old, raising concerns about planned obsolescence in the tech industry. This shift mirrors similar actions taken by other tech companies, such as Google’s announcement that it will end support for older Nest thermostats this fall. In both cases, users are being offered discounts for newer models but will lose many features if they stick with their existing devices.
