Dolby Vision 2 Introduces AI-Driven Picture Optimization and Advanced Motion Control

Dolby has unveiled Dolby Vision 2, the next generation of its HDR format, designed to enhance viewing quality beyond traditional brightness and tone adjustments. The new version includes ‘Content Intelligence’ tools that leverage AI to automatically optimize TVs based on content type, viewing environment, and the device being used. Features include Precision Black for clearer dark scenes without compromising filmmakers’ intent, and an updated Light Sense system that adjusts the picture according to ambient lighting combined with source reference data. Dolby Vision 2 also introduces bi-directional tone mapping to enable higher brightness, sharper contrast, and richer colors while giving creators more control over display output. Another notable improvement is ‘Authentic Motion,’ a motion smoothing tool allowing shot-by-shot control to reduce judder while maintaining a cinematic look. Hisense will be the first brand to launch TVs with Dolby Vision 2, powered by the MediaTek Pentonic 800 chip, with other brands likely to follow. The new format also differentiates between standard Dolby Vision 2 for mainstream TVs and Dolby Vision 2 Max for premium, high-performance models. Existing Dolby Vision content remains compatible, but only Dolby Vision 2 TVs can utilize the additional metadata. This update aims to deliver a more intelligent, visually accurate, and cinematic viewing experience.
