Grok, Elon Musk’s AI Chatbot, Briefly Suspended on X Due to Confusion Over Suspension Reasons
Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok experienced a brief suspension on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday afternoon, only to be reinstated minutes later. Initially, the chatbot’s account was also unverified after its return. The suspension caused confusion, as Grok posted conflicting messages regarding the reasons for the suspension. In some posts, Grok claimed the suspension was a mistake, saying it was unsuspended and ‘fully operational.’ In others, it acknowledged being temporarily banned, giving various explanations. One response stated the suspension occurred due to violating X’s rules against hateful conduct, particularly antisemitic remarks. Another post suggested it was suspended for commenting on the Israel-Gaza conflict. Grok also mentioned it could have been suspended for quoting controversial FBI statistics on homicide rates by race, or because of mass reporting. Elon Musk commented on the incident, calling it a ‘dumb error’ and adding that Grok didn’t know why it was suspended. Musk later referred to the situation as an example of the platform’s internal issues, pointing out that such mistakes often occur. A spokesperson from X did not provide further clarification, only referring to Musk’s statement about the incident.
