Specific cases involve North Korean groups using AI to fabricate IT workers for remote positions in Western organisations, complete with AI-generated photos, resumes, and even altered voices for interviews. Microsoft’s Threat Intelligence team reported on a group called ‘Jasper Sleet,’ which employs AI applications like Faceswap to produce realistic identities. While AI also offers significant productivity benefits for legitimate organisations, officials stress that it introduces substantial risks. Canadian authorities are exploring ways to deploy AI defensively, using it to triage data and detect fraudulent patterns, but challenges remain, especially when fraudsters operate from abroad.
