Volvo Launches ES90 Electric Sedan with 755km Range and Fast Charging in SA

Volvo Cars South Africa has introduced the new ES90, a luxury electric sedan offering a claimed range of 755km on a single charge. Available in three trims ranging from R1.59m to R1.795m, the rear-wheel-drive fastback aims to compete with the Mercedes-Benz EQE and BMW i5. All variants are powered by a rear-mounted electric motor producing 245kW and 480Nm, achieving 0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h. The ES90 features an advanced 800-volt system and 92 kWh battery, allowing rapid charging — up to 300km in just 10 minutes on a 350kW public charger. Home charging is included with a wallbox, and the package also offers two years of free public charging plus 10GB of Vodacom data per month for three years. Inside, the cabin combines Swedish minimalism with modern tech, including a 14.5-inch Google-powered touchscreen, four-zone climate control, and various luxury options depending on the trim. The flagship Ultra trim adds massaging seats, electrochromic panoramic roof, HD headlamps, and 360-degree parking cameras. Air suspension ensures a comfortable ride, and the sedan handles corners with agility despite its size. Overall, the ES90 presents a practical, well-equipped electric family car for the South African market, capable of long-distance drives with convenience and style.
