EU imposes sanctions on Chinese and Iranian companies for cyber attacks on member states

The European Union has officially imposed sanctions against two Chinese companies and one Iranian company due to their involvement in cyber attacks targeting EU member states. China-based Integrity Technology Group and Anxun Information Technology, as well as Iran-based Emennet Pasargad, are now subject to EU measures. Integrity Technology is reported to have facilitated hacking of over 65,000 devices across six EU member states. Meanwhile, Anxun Information Technology is accused of providing hacking services specifically aimed at critical infrastructure, and two of its co-founders have been personally listed for their participation in these cyber attacks. Emennet Pasargad is said to have manipulated advertising billboards to spread disinformation during the 2024 Paris Olympics. As part of the sanctions, individuals face travel bans and asset freezes, while EU citizens and companies are prohibited from making funds available to the implicated companies. The EU emphasizes that these measures are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cybersecurity and hold actors accountable for threats against European networks and public information.
