Futurist Adam Dorr warns that robots and AI could replace most human jobs by 2045
Adam Dorr, a leading futurist and technology theorist, predicts that robots and AI will dominate global industries within 20 years, replacing almost all human labor. Dorr, who is also a researcher at RethinkX, suggests that technological disruption will be faster and more profound than any prior transformation in history, rendering human work largely obsolete by 2045. While some roles might survive, like those requiring deep human emotion or ethics, the vast majority of jobs will be taken over by machines capable of performing tasks better and at a lower cost. Dorr emphasizes that this shift could bring about both tremendous opportunities for ‘super-abundance’ and serious risks, such as extreme inequality if not managed properly. Societies must urgently re-examine economic systems, value, and distribution mechanisms to avoid the worst outcomes. Despite the looming challenges, Dorr remains optimistic about the potential for a brighter future, citing the example of historical technological transformations as evidence that societies can adapt and thrive amidst change. However, he cautions that the transition will be tumultuous and that humanity must act now to prepare for the profound shifts ahead.
