Gemini app introduces video upload and analysis across Android, iOS, and web platforms

The Gemini app by Google has introduced a new feature allowing users to upload video files directly from their devices on Android, iPhone, iPad, and the web. This update, available to both free and paid users, enables adding video clips to prompts for analysis. Users can select videos from their Gallery or Files through the app’s plus menu or simply drag a file to the prompt bar on the web version. Once uploaded, Gemini analyzes the content, allowing users to ask questions about the video. Examples include identifying times shown on devices or describing scenes in detail, such as a serene autumn forest landscape with vivid fall colors. While the feature is rolling out gradually and is not yet universally available, it supports a wide range of accounts and device types. However, the Gemini app’s built-in camera does not yet support video recording. The update complements other recent Gemini improvements like a new navigation drawer and version 2.5 Pro. This functionality enhances Gemini’s multimodal capabilities by expanding beyond documents and images to include user-generated video content, enriching the interactive AI experience.
