Google Will Release Official Chrome Build for ARM64 Linux in 2026

Google has announced that it will release an official version of Chrome for ARM64 Linux in the second quarter of 2026. Until now, Linux users running ARM-based hardware had to rely on unofficial builds or Chromium alternatives to get a Chrome-like experience. The new Chrome build will include features already familiar on other platforms, such as Google account syncing, support for Chrome Web Store extensions, built-in translation, Safe Browsing protections, and Google Password Manager. This move reflects the growing prevalence of ARM hardware in the Linux ecosystem, from developer laptops to AI systems. Google also highlighted NVIDIA’s DGX Spark, a compact AI supercomputing device based on the Grace Blackwell architecture, which will support Chrome installation via NVIDIA’s package management. The announcement has been met with a mix of excitement and curiosity within the Linux community, as ARM64 systems have been widely used for years without official Chrome support. While some users question the necessity given existing Chromium and alternative browsers, many see this as a significant step for convenience and compatibility across ARM-based Linux systems.
