Google Tests Opal, a New Vibe-Coding Tool for Creating Web Apps with AI
Google is experimenting with a new vibe-coding tool called Opal, currently being tested in the U.S. through Google Labs. This tool allows users to create mini web apps by simply providing text prompts. Users can describe the app they want, and Opal, using different Google models, will generate it. After the app is created, users can access an editor panel to visualize the app’s workflow, and they can also manually modify the process or add new steps from the toolbar. Once complete, the app can be published and shared for others to test. Unlike Google’s AI studio, which focuses on developers, Opal is designed to be more accessible to a broader audience, especially those without coding experience. This move puts Google in competition with other platforms like Canva, Figma, and Replit, which also offer similar tools to help non-technical users build prototypes and applications.
