Google introduces new Flashcards, Quizzes, and redesigned Reports for NotebookLM

Google is rolling out new learning tools for its NotebookLM platform, including Flashcards, Quizzes, and redesigned Reports. These updates, announced on September 8, 2025, aim to enhance the educational experience by offering more ways to engage with source material. Users can now create custom Flashcards and Quizzes to reinforce learning, with options to adjust the number of cards/questions and difficulty levels (Easy, Medium, or Hard). Additionally, tapping on a card or quiz question provides detailed explanations to help users understand the content better. NotebookLM’s Reports have also been revamped, now offering dynamic suggestions based on the theme, topic, or industry of the uploaded material. For example, uploading an academic article on economic theory may prompt suggestions for key terms or magazine-style explainers. A new “Learning Guide” conversational style allows users to explore topics through open-ended questions, promoting deeper understanding rather than just providing answers. There are also interactive notebooks available for popular academic subjects, such as Biology, Psychology, and Chemistry, designed for high school and college students. These updates are being rolled out in phases, with the Flashcards and Quizzes available now and the new chat features coming next week.
