Mexican Government Restores Mobile Connectivity in Rain-Hit Regions of Hidalgo, Puebla, and Veracruz

The Mexican Agency for Digital Transformation and Telecommunications (ADyT), in collaboration with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), Altán Redes, and private operators, has launched an emergency plan to restore mobile connectivity in regions of Hidalgo, Puebla, and Veracruz affected by recent heavy rainfall. The initiative aims to ensure communication access for safety and coordination during emergencies. Key actions include Altán Redes providing free packages with 2 GB of data, 250 minutes of voice calls, and 250 SMS to over 54,000 users across 68 virtual mobile operators in the impacted areas. Additionally, Altán Redes offered free roaming to Telcel users in Veracruz, benefiting approximately 550,000 people. Telcel will provide free tariffs for seven days in Veracruz and northern Puebla. The CFE is distributing over 12,000 free SIM cards with data and minutes at its service centers in the affected regions. Bait, an Altán operator, will distribute 1,800 free SIM cards at the Sam’s Club store in Poza Rica and offer free packages to its customers in the affected areas.
