Harrods Restricts Internet Access Following Attempted Cyber Attack

Luxury department store Harrods has reported an attempted cyber attack, making it the latest UK retailer to face such a threat. As a precaution, the company restricted internet access at its locations, although all stores, including its Knightsbridge flagship, H beauty outlets, and airport branches, remain open. Online shopping via harrods.com is still operational. Harrods did not provide details on the extent of the intrusion, but stated that customers should not change their behavior for now.

This incident follows recent attacks on other major UK retailers. Marks & Spencer is still dealing with significant disruptions due to a ransomware attack attributed to the group ‘DragonForce’, which has affected both online orders and in-store product availability. The Co-op has also shut down segments of its IT systems and instructed staff to verify meeting participants amid fears of hacker infiltration.

Experts suggest the incidents may be linked, either through a common compromised supplier or a broader trend in heightened threat detection following the M&S breach. Cybersecurity professionals warn that the retail sector is increasingly vulnerable due to large volumes of customer data and the potential for major operational disruption. Consumers are urged to remain vigilant, update passwords, and monitor financial accounts closely.
