How to Claim Compensation from the $177 Million AT&T Data Breach Settlement
AT&T has agreed to a $177 million settlement due to two significant data breaches, one in 2019 and another in 2024, affecting millions of current and former customers. The settlement was preliminarily approved by a federal judge in Texas. The 2019 breach compromised sensitive data including names, Social Security numbers, and birth dates of 51 million individuals and resulted in $149 million allocated for affected users. The 2024 breach involved unauthorized access to call and text records via AT&T’s cloud storage service and has $28 million set aside as compensation. Eligible customers can file claims to receive up to $5,000 for documented financial losses or opt for payouts based on the type and extent of the compromised data. Those impacted by both breaches can file separate claims but must have distinct documentation for each. The deadline to submit claims is November 18, 2025. The settlement final approval hearing is scheduled for December 3, 2025. Customers who want to retain the right to sue individually must opt out by October 17, 2025. The settlement aims to provide partial reimbursement for the breaches while AT&T denies responsibility for the criminal acts involved but settled to avoid prolonged litigation.
