Tesla’s New Longer Model YL with 6 Seats Spotted Ahead of Launch

Tesla is preparing to launch a new variant of the Model Y, the ‘Model YL’, featuring a longer wheelbase and six seats. The updated version has been seen for the first time ahead of its launch, teasing a design that includes captain-style seats in the second row. This version is approximately 7 inches longer, 1 inch taller, and features a 6-inch longer wheelbase compared to the regular Model Y. Tesla has confirmed these dimensions through a recent filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The vehicle has been spotted on transport trucks in China, and images of its interior, showing the two back rows fully folded down, have also surfaced. The Model YL will likely compete with other third-row electric SUVs, such as the NIO Onvo L90, which has already garnered significant pre-orders in China. While Tesla’s new variant might not dramatically boost its volumes, it is seen as a more practical and spacious alternative to the previous third-row Model Y, which was not well-suited for adult passengers. The Model YL’s release in China is poised to coincide with the launch of the NIO L90, which is expected to increase competition in the market for larger electric SUVs.
