Huawei leads in the development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure over Tesla

In August 2025, Huawei launched a 100 MW charging station in Sichuan Province, capable of rapidly charging electric trucks. This announcement comes as Tesla, led by Elon Musk, is still struggling to implement its own high-speed charging solutions. China continues to dominate the electric vehicle market, with a focus on infrastructure capable of providing fast and accessible charging, crucial for mass adoption. Huawei’s new station in Beichuan integrates 18 terminals with 1.44 MW capacity for heavy vehicles and 108 points of 600 kW capacity. The station can add 100 kilometers of range to trucks in just 5 minutes, which is a significant improvement over existing solutions. The Chinese government strongly supports electrification in the heavy transport sector, making it a strategic move to reduce energy dependence. Unlike Tesla, whose Semi truck charger is still in development and limited in deployment, Huawei is pushing forward with concrete projects that showcase China’s technological advantage. This dynamic may influence the future of fast charging, as both companies take different approaches—Huawei centralizing high-capacity stations, while Tesla focuses on gradual global expansion of its network. The key to success will be vehicle compatibility and network reliability.
