Hyprland 0.50 Update Introduces Render Scheduling and Multi-GPU Support
Hyprland 0.50, the latest release of this Wayland compositor, introduces several notable improvements aimed at enhancing the Linux desktop experience. The most significant change is the removal of the legacy renderer, meaning that graphics drivers must now support OpenGL ES 3.0. The update also brings new render scheduling that dynamically switches to triple buffering when needed, helping to improve frame rates, especially on underpowered devices like Intel integrated graphics or Raspberry Pi. However, this feature is considered experimental and is disabled by default, with plans to make it the default in future releases. Another key feature is the addition of a ‘no screenshare’ option that allows users to black out windows during screen-sharing sessions for privacy purposes. In addition, Hyprland 0.50 includes multi-GPU support for DRM leases, various optimizations, and a range of bug fixes, including improvements to XWayland compatibility. This release reflects ongoing efforts to refine and optimize Hyprland as a cutting-edge Wayland compositor for Linux desktops.
