Intel Remains Silent on SR-IOV Support for Panther Lake Xe3 GPUs
Intel has refrained from providing details on whether SR-IOV support will be included across all Panther Lake Xe3 graphics cards. Earlier this year, discussions about SR-IOV support surfaced on the Intel driver mailing list, but during the Intel Tech Tour in Arizona, no clear answers were provided. Intel’s Tom Petersen shut down inquiries about SR-IOV in relation to Panther Lake, stating he would not comment on Linux kernel activity or engineering notes. The uncertainty remains whether SR-IOV will be available for all Panther Lake models, or limited to specific configurations, like ‘Pro’ laptops. SR-IOV support has been confirmed for Intel’s Arc Pro graphics, but its inclusion for Panther Lake remains unclear. The lack of insight into the SR-IOV features for this generation leaves Linux users awaiting more information on how Intel will implement this technology. Despite this silence, Intel has announced other updates at Tech Tour 2025, including Clearwater Forest for Xeon 6+ and new shifts in their open-source strategy. Intel continues to keep a tight lid on the SR-IOV capabilities of their latest graphics architecture, leaving the community curious about future hardware support.
