Jaguar Land Rover Halts Production and Retail Operations Due to Cyberattack

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), owned by India’s Tata Motors, has suffered a significant cyberattack that has severely disrupted both its vehicle production and retail operations. The company detected the attack on Sunday and quickly shut down its IT systems to contain potential damage. Employees at the Halewood plant in Merseyside were instructed via email not to attend work, while other staff were sent home. JLR emphasized that there is currently no evidence of customer data being compromised. The timing of the attack is particularly challenging for the company, as it coincides with the release of new vehicle registration plates in the UK, a period when car deliveries traditionally spike. The incident follows a series of recent cyberattacks on UK retail businesses, such as the Co-op and Marks and Spencer, where hackers sought ransom payments. JLR is now working to restart its global IT systems in a controlled manner. This disruption comes at a difficult time for the firm, which recently reported declining profits due to increased costs from US tariffs. The company is prioritizing rapid recovery to resume production and retail activities while ensuring system security and stability.
