Microsoft Extends Windows 10 Support with Optional 12-Month Update Enrollment

Microsoft has announced an unexpected 12-month support extension for Windows 10 users, following recent issues with Windows updates that caused failed installations and hardware problems. The extension is offered through a new enrollment option in the Windows 10 update panel. Users must click the ‘Enroll’ button to claim the Extended Security Updates (ESU), which are available in both free and paid multi-PC versions. However, this enrollment button is being rolled out gradually, and many users may not see it immediately. Microsoft has confirmed that all Windows 10 users will eventually have access to the button, and it is essential to enroll before October 13, 2025, one day before the official end-of-life date for Windows 10. The next Windows 10 update is expected within a week, and users are advised to update promptly and check for the ESU enrollment option. This extension ensures that more than 700 million users who cannot or choose not to upgrade to Windows 11 remain protected. Microsoft hopes September updates proceed smoothly, and the temporary decline in Windows 11 adoption is considered a minor issue rather than a new trend.
