Survey explores iPhone users’ interest in foldable smartphones

A recent survey conducted by SellCell among 2,000 US iPhone owners suggests that nearly one-third might consider switching to Samsung or Google devices to access a foldable smartphone this year, instead of waiting for Apple’s anticipated iPhone Fold expected in 2026. While 68.3% of respondents plan to upgrade to the iPhone 17, 30.3% expressed interest in foldable alternatives, which is unusually high given the historically low switching rates among iPhone users. The survey also shows that Android devices are becoming increasingly appealing, with users citing AI features, pricing, cameras, and foldable form factors as factors influencing their interest. About 44% of respondents consider Apple’s AI-related features important, possibly due to their inclusion of photography and editing tools. While some Apple fans remain skeptical about the likelihood of such a high number switching brands so soon, the findings indicate a growing curiosity about foldables and Android innovations. Overall, the survey provides mixed news for Apple: strong loyalty remains for the iPhone 17, but Android’s appeal is rising among users who are exploring new device types and advanced features.
