Microsoft to Stop Saving Passwords in Authenticator App Starting June 1

Passkeys rely on a unique public key and a private key stored on the user’s device, making them harder for hackers to intercept. Microsoft has emphasized that the era of passwords is coming to an end, as cyber attackers intensify their focus on exploiting password vulnerabilities. Microsoft’s goal is to shift users to a more secure, password-less authentication method, aligning with the broader push for stronger security standards. Users are advised to ensure they have set up Passkeys for their Microsoft accounts, as the Authenticator app will remain essential for managing passkeys.
