Microsoft Introduces Recall, Improved AI Search, and Click to Do for Copilot Plus PCs

Microsoft has officially launched Recall, an opt-in feature that captures screenshots of user activity to improve search capabilities, exclusively for Copilot Plus PCs. After initial privacy concerns delayed its rollout, Recall now comes with enhanced security measures like encryption and sensitive data filtering. However, some researchers, including Kevin Beaumont, note that the filtering can still be inconsistent. Additionally, Microsoft has updated Windows search with AI, allowing natural language queries instead of relying on file names or metadata. Users can search for descriptions, like ‘brown dog,’ and find relevant files easily. Another new feature, Click to Do, enables users to take actions on text and images on-screen, such as summarizing content or editing photos, by using the Windows key + left click. While Click to Do’s text actions are initially limited to Qualcomm-powered devices, AMD and Intel devices will receive support soon. These features are now live but won’t be available in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway until later this year. Overall, Microsoft aims to make everyday interactions with Windows more intuitive while addressing previous security criticisms.
