Microsoft Edge Improves Speed, Now Renders First Elements in Less Than 300ms
Microsoft has announced significant performance upgrades for its Edge browser, claiming it now renders the first parts of a website in under 300 milliseconds. This is a key metric known as First Contentful Paint (FCP), which measures how quickly visible elements of a webpage, such as text or images, appear to users. Microsoft explained that research shows a delay beyond 300 milliseconds can impact user satisfaction. The company has also worked on improving the responsiveness of other Edge features, including the settings page, and a smoother split-screen experience. These improvements are part of Microsoft’s continued migration to a faster WebUI 2.0 architecture, which minimizes the size of code bundles and reduces the amount of JavaScript needed to initialize the browser’s user interface. In addition to these advancements, Microsoft reported that the browser’s download, history, and private browsing features are now 40% faster. Microsoft also plans to roll out further performance improvements in the coming months, targeting features like Print Preview and Extensions. Despite these efforts, Edge still holds a small market share compared to Chrome, but this performance boost could encourage more users to give it a try.
