Microsoft Begins Rollout of Windows 11 Version 25H2 with Security Enhancements
Microsoft has started rolling out the Windows 11 2025 update, known as version 25H2, to users worldwide. This is a minor update designed to be quickly installed through an enablement package that activates features already present in the previous 24H2 version, as both versions share the same code base. Key improvements include stronger security features, such as advanced vulnerability detection and AI-assisted secure coding to mitigate risks under a stringent security development lifecycle. The update also streamlines the OS by removing legacy components like PowerShell 2.0 and the Windows Management Instrumentation command-line tool. Some new features introduced incrementally in version 24H2, like Wi-Fi 7 support and enhancements to Taskbar, File Explorer, and Task Manager, are now fully enabled. Users can get the update by enabling automatic updates in Windows Update, though Microsoft may delay the rollout on systems with potential compatibility issues. The company plans to expand availability over the coming months and supports version 25H2 until October 2027 for most editions. Overall, the update focuses more on improving security and performance rather than introducing major new features.
