Apple Enhances Vision Pro Avatars and Introduces Spatial Widgets in visionOS 26

Apple has released an update to its Vision Pro headset, introducing visionOS 26 with several enhancements aimed at improving the user experience. Despite the device’s lukewarm reception since its launch in early 2024, Apple has continued to develop the platform. One major update is the overhaul of ‘Personas’, which are spatial avatars based on the user’s likeness. These digital representations are now more realistic, with improved hair textures, skin tones, and more natural design. Though not perfect—some facial expressions and eye movements remain stiff—the improvements make a noticeable difference. Another key feature is the introduction of spatial widgets, allowing users to place virtual tools like clocks, calendars, or photo frames around their physical spaces. These widgets are persistent, tied to a private map of the home stored on the device. Apple aims to make the headset a staple of daily life, encouraging users to move through their home while interacting with these virtual elements. Despite criticisms about practicality and social awkwardness, Apple is reportedly working on a more affordable version of the headset, possibly arriving in late 2025 or 2026. The visionOS 26 update will be available in the fall.
