Philips Hue Increases Prices in the US Due to Tariffs

Philips Hue, the smart lighting and security products brand, will raise its prices in the US starting July 1st, 2025. The parent company, Signify, attributed the price increase to tariffs, though it hasn’t specified which products will be affected or the exact price adjustments. The company had initially hinted at the price hikes through promotional messages and later clarified that tariffs were the main cause. Some products, like the new $219.99 Hue Play Wall Washer light, already reflect higher prices compared to their European counterparts, with the US price being approximately 10% higher when currency differences are taken into account. Similarly, the new $32.99 Smart Button exceeds the previous model’s launch price of $24.99, while the European price remained at 21.99 euro ($25.50). The increase is part of a broader shift that could impact the entire Hue product lineup. This price hike, in addition to the continued growth of smart home technology, has sparked discussions among consumers about the ongoing dependency on cloud-based services and the rise of alternatives like Shelly and Home Assistant. Some users argue that systems with cloud dependency should be avoided, while others appreciate the convenience and flexibility Hue provides.
