Pony.ai Partners with Tencent to Integrate Robotaxi Services into WeChat and Tencent Apps
Chinese autonomous vehicle start-up Pony.ai announced a strategic partnership with Tencent Cloud to advance autonomous driving technology and offer robotaxi services through Tencent’s platforms, including WeChat and Tencent Maps. The collaboration encompasses cloud services, map data, information security, and intelligent cockpit ecosystems. CEO James Peng highlighted Tencent’s massive user base and technological capabilities as key benefits of the partnership. Through this deal, users will soon be able to hail Pony.ai’s robotaxis directly via WeChat, the ‘super app’ with over 1 billion users. Both companies aim to push forward L4-level autonomous driving technologies, allowing for self-driving capabilities in designated areas without human supervision. The partnership follows Pony.ai’s launch of its seventh-generation L4 robotaxi at the Shanghai Auto Show, with shares soaring 40% after the announcement. Despite strong growth, Pony.ai is also preparing for potential U.S. market challenges and is considering a secondary listing outside the U.S., amid fears of Chinese companies being delisted from American stock exchanges.
