Reddit Expands Translation Feature to Hindi to Reach Indian Users

Reddit has launched an update to its machine translation feature, enabling automatic translation of posts and comments into Hindi, marking a significant step in its efforts to expand its user base in India. With Hindi being one of the most spoken languages in the country, this move aims to make Reddit’s content more accessible to a broader audience. The platform initially began testing this translation feature last May with French, and it has since expanded to support more than 35 countries with languages including Spanish and Portuguese. Reddit has expressed plans to also introduce Bengali translation support in the near future. This update is part of Reddit’s broader strategy to grow its community in India, where the company has been increasing its presence by hiring employees for various roles, including community building and engineering. Alongside the translation feature, Reddit has also introduced AI-powered features like Answers, which were rolled out to several countries earlier this month, including India. The social platform’s focus on India highlights its commitment to catering to a diverse, global user base.
