Kia EV4: Affordable Long-Range EV Aimed at the Global Mass Market

The 2026 Kia EV4 is a compact electric sedan designed to offer long-range performance at an accessible price, with global availability across 140 markets. Built on a cost-efficient 400-volt platform rather than the more expensive 800-volt system used in other Kia EVs, the EV4 prioritizes affordability without compromising essential features. It comes with two battery sizes: 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh, providing estimated EPA ranges of 235 to 330 miles respectively. Performance is managed by a single 150-kW front-wheel drive motor, with acceleration ranging from 0 to 62 mph in 7.4 to 7.7 seconds depending on the version.

The EV4 introduces a range of new features for Kia, including over-the-air map updates and interior ‘Rest Modes.’ However, some innovations like theater mode will not be available in North America. The car is designed with distinctive styling that may divide opinion, but its aerodynamic form (drag coefficient of 0.23) and spacious rear legroom are notable highlights.

Currently on sale in South Korea, global rollout will occur over the next nine months. Pricing for North America is expected to start in the low-to-mid $30,000 range, positioning the EV4 as a competitive alternative to the Tesla Model 3, Polestar 2, and Hyundai Ioniq 6, especially if U.S. pricing aligns with its affordability goal.
