Sony Introduces WH-1000XM6 Headphones With Improved Noise Cancellation and Foldable Design

Sony has officially unveiled its latest premium wireless headphones, the WH-1000XM6. These new headphones mark a return to the foldable design last seen in the WH-1000XM4, addressing a key criticism of the XM5. The updated model comes with a redesigned carrying case that uses a magnetic closure instead of a zipper, making it more compact and travel-friendly. Visually, the XM6 closely resembles its predecessor, but Sony has packed in notable improvements under the hood.

The headphones feature a new HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3, which is seven times faster than the previous generation. This, combined with 12 microphones (50% more than before), enables more responsive and precise noise cancellation. Additionally, Sony has added ‘Scene-based Listening,’ a smart feature that adjusts audio settings depending on the user’s surroundings and activity. Support for LE Audio and Auracast also enhances the headphones’ wireless capabilities.

Despite these upgrades, battery life remains at 30 hours, though a quick three-minute charge can provide up to three hours of listening time. Sony has collaborated with major studios like Sterling Sound to fine-tune the audio quality. The WH-1000XM6 is priced at $449.99, which is $50 more than the XM5. The price hike, coupled with the plastic build, may raise questions for potential buyers. A hands-on review is expected soon.
