Deputy Minister Gungubele Launches African Digital Transformation Centre in Pretoria

This afternoon, Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Mondli Gungubele, will officially launch the African Digital Transformation Centre (ADTC) at The Innovation Hub in Pretoria. The centre is designed to serve as a national and regional platform aimed at accelerating innovation, digital skills development, and entrepreneurship across the continent. South Africa is recognised as a leading digital innovation hub in Africa, thanks to a robust technology ecosystem, advanced financial systems, reliable infrastructure, and a thriving network of startups and innovators. The ADTC is expected to strengthen collaborations between government, academia, industry, and development organisations, facilitating knowledge exchange and joint initiatives. The centre aligns with South Africa’s key digital transformation policies, including the National Digital Economy Masterplan, the Draft National AI Policy Framework, and various Fourth Industrial Revolution initiatives. Moreover, it complements broader continental efforts under the African Union Digital Transformation Strategy (2020–2030). Positioned within the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance for Digital Development, the ADTC will also become part of the International Telecommunication Union’s global Network of Acceleration Centres, contributing to bridging the digital divide and promoting inclusive digital economies. This initiative underscores South Africa’s ongoing commitment to harnessing digital technologies for socio-economic growth.
