Accenture Acquires Ookla’s Connectivity Services to Support AI and Enterprise Networks
Ziff Davis announced the sale of its Connectivity division, which includes well-known services like Ookla’s Speedtest and DownDetector, as well as Ekahau and RootMetrics, to Accenture for $1.2 billion in cash, pending regulatory approval. While Ziff Davis may not be widely recognized in the Philippines, many users are familiar with its offerings for checking internet performance. Speedtest allows users to measure connection speed and latency, DownDetector monitors service outages, Ekahau provides tools for wireless network design, and RootMetrics tracks mobile network performance. Accenture aims to use these tools and data to help communications service providers, enterprises, and hyperscalers optimize Wi-Fi and 5G networks, especially in the context of AI scaling. By leveraging over 250 million monthly consumer-initiated tests and additional controlled testing methods, Accenture intends to provide insights that improve fraud prevention, smart home analytics, and traffic management. The acquisition will maintain Ookla’s services for general users while enhancing enterprise network intelligence solutions. Accenture emphasizes that stable and low-latency connectivity is critical in supporting AI agents and digital transformation initiatives. The company plans to operate Ookla’s business as it currently functions, ensuring continuity for regular users while expanding capabilities for enterprise clients.
