Daniel Ek Leads €600 Million Investment in Helsing to Strengthen Europe’s Defense Tech Capabilities

Spotify’s Daniel Ek has made a major move into Europe’s defense sector, leading a €600 million investment round in Helsing, a Munich-based defense tech company. This brings Helsing’s valuation to €12 billion, marking it as one of Europe’s most valuable privately held companies. Helsing, which originally specialized in AI software for military operations, has expanded its portfolio to include drones, aircraft, and unmanned submarines to enhance surveillance and warfare strategies. This investment highlights Europe’s ongoing push to strengthen its own defense capabilities in response to growing geopolitical instability, notably after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. With the U.S. focusing more on its own interests, European nations are investing heavily in advanced military technologies to achieve strategic autonomy. Ek’s investment firm, Prima Materia, led the round, with other notable backers such as Lightspeed Ventures and Accel. Helsing’s total raised funds now stand at €1.37 billion. The company uses AI to create real-time visualizations of battlefield data, helping military personnel make informed decisions based on shared intelligence. As Europe ramps up its defense spending, Helsing and other companies like Anduril and Quantum Systems are positioning themselves at the forefront of this digital revolution in military tech.
