Tanzania promotes AI for regional development in agriculture, health, and trade

During the 4th EAC Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Conference held in Kigali, Rwanda, Tanzania highlighted the important role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in driving development across the East African Community (EAC). The country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, said AI can enhance efficiency, improve public service delivery, and strengthen economic competitiveness both within the region and in global markets. Minister Kombo emphasized Tanzania’s ongoing efforts under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, prioritizing technology, digital economy, and innovation as central pillars of the national development strategy and the 2050 Vision. He encouraged EAC member states to work together to mobilize financial resources for research, digital infrastructure, knowledge exchange, local innovation, and joint technology projects. The minister believes these steps will help ensure inclusive development, better services for citizens, and improved social welfare, particularly for young people. The conference gathered government officials, academics, innovators, diplomats, and development stakeholders to discuss strategies for fostering regional cooperation and building stronger economic and social stability in East Africa.
