Custom PC with 1,000 GB RAM Built for Industrial-Grade 3D Mapping, Not Gaming

A Reddit user known as Faerco has built a custom PC costing nearly $32,000, featuring a staggering 1,000 GB of DDR5 RAM. Contrary to what many might assume, this high-end machine was not built for gaming but for handling massive LiDAR datasets used in industrial 3D mapping and interference analysis. The PC is powered by a SuperMicro X13SWA-TF motherboard, a 56-core Intel Xeon W9-3495X processor, two 8TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs in RAID 0, four additional 8TB SSDs, and an NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada Generation GPU with 48 GB of memory. Such hardware is necessary for processing highly detailed laser-based imaging, which helps industries simulate whether large components can fit through complex environments, saving time and costs. The level of detail achieved is down to less than 1.5 mm. Interestingly, the machine is so powerful that some specialized software, like FARO Scene, struggles to fully utilize its capabilities. Faerco emphasizes that using this computer for gaming would waste 98% of its power, as its true value lies in enabling precise, efficient industrial simulations. This build highlights the evolution of ultra-specialized computing, where function outweighs the desire to simply showcase hardware power.
