Trump Grants Additional 90-Day Extension for TikTok Sale in the US

President Donald Trump has announced a 90-day extension to the deadline for the sale or ban of TikTok in the United States. This decision marks the third delay in the enforcement of a law requiring the Chinese-owned app to be sold to a U.S. entity or face a ban. The law, passed due to national security concerns, reflects fears that TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, could be compelled to share user data with the Chinese government. TikTok has consistently denied these claims.

In his announcement on Truth Social, Trump stated that a deal must be completed by 17 September. The extension provides more time for negotiations and for any sale to gain the necessary approval from Chinese regulators. TikTok expressed appreciation for Trump’s leadership and said it continues to work closely with U.S. authorities, including Vice President Vance’s office.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained that the extension is intended to ensure the transaction can be finalized properly, while also maintaining data security for the app’s 170 million American users. The ongoing process underscores the complex geopolitical and regulatory issues surrounding the ownership and operation of major tech platforms.
