How to Set SBS News as Your Preferred Source on Google in Australia

Google has rolled out a feature in Australia allowing users to select preferred news sources, giving greater visibility to chosen outlets in Top Stories. SBS News, recognised as one of Australia’s most trusted news providers, can now be prioritised in Google search results by users who opt in. To set SBS News as a preferred source, simply sign into your Google account, search for a current news topic, click the icon showing overlapping cards with a star in the Top Stories section, search for SBS Australia, and select it as your preferred source. Once you reload results, SBS News stories will appear higher in your search results when relevant. This setting only applies while logged into Google and can be adjusted or removed at any time. Users can also directly access the Preferred Sources settings via a dedicated link. Beyond Google, SBS News offers multiple ways to stay informed, including newsletters, mobile apps, and podcasts like News Updates, News-In-Depth, and On the Money. SBS News also provides accessible news formats, including Easy English summaries for English learners and people with disabilities. This initiative aims to give Australians more control over the news they consume, ensuring trusted sources like SBS News are easily accessible for public-interest journalism.
