WhatsApp Patches Security Vulnerability Affecting Apple Devices
WhatsApp has addressed a security flaw that allowed hackers to exploit Apple devices, potentially compromising user data. The vulnerability, which was linked to a bug in both iOS and iPadOS, was exploited in a campaign lasting around 90 days. This exploit specifically targeted a small number of users—less than 200—according to WhatsApp, which has already notified those affected. Although WhatsApp believes the attack was contained, it also warned that other apps might have been affected by this flaw. While the identity of the attackers remains unclear, WhatsApp has urged all users to update their apps to the latest version as soon as possible to mitigate the risk. Apple has also acknowledged the vulnerability, offering patches to address the issue within its operating systems. The issue underscores the ongoing importance of regular software updates to protect against increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks.
