Real-World Durability Test Reveals Issues After Folding Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 200,000 Times

A Korean YouTube channel, Tech-it, conducted a rigorous real-world durability test on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 by folding and unfolding the device 200,000 times by hand over several days. Despite Samsung’s claim that the device can withstand 500,000 folds under simulated conditions, the phone began showing operational issues much earlier. The phone experienced reboot errors between 6,000 and 10,000 folds, started to creak at 46,000 folds, and leaked an unknown black liquid from the hinge at 75,000 folds. By 175,000 folds, all speakers, including the earpiece, ceased working. On a positive note, the folding mechanism became smoother and the hinge still maintained the ability to hold the phone at various angles. The test highlighted a significant difference between lab-based simulated durability tests and real-world manual usage, as machines used in labs apply consistent force unlike human handling. The findings raise concerns about the Z Fold 7’s long-term durability in everyday use, especially considering the complex hinge design and flexible display that make foldable phones more prone to damage compared to traditional smartphones.
