OpenAI Expands ChatGPT with Integrated Shopping and Product Recommendations

OpenAI has announced a significant update to its popular ChatGPT AI bot, introducing new shopping features that allow users to access prices, reviews, and direct links to purchase personalized product recommendations. This move marks OpenAI’s entry into the online shopping space, an area traditionally dominated by companies like Amazon and Google. The company emphasizes that its product selections are independently chosen and not advertisements, aiming to provide users with unbiased recommendations. Since its launch last year, ChatGPT’s search tool has quickly become one of its most popular features, with over one billion searches conducted in the past week alone. While Google still holds about 89% of the global search market, its share has been gradually declining. By adding shopping capabilities, OpenAI is positioning itself as a direct competitor not only to Google but also to other platforms that offer product reviews, such as the New York Times. Amazon and other AI firms like Perplexity have also introduced similar AI-powered shopping assistants. OpenAI’s goal is to make it faster and easier for users to find, compare, and buy products. The new shopping feature will be available to all users, with a full rollout expected within a few days. Alongside this, OpenAI has introduced additional enhancements, including the ability for users to text ChatGPT for live sports scores and receive answers with multiple citations.
