Kevin Rose, Digg founder, expresses interest in acquiring Pocket from Mozilla

Kevin Rose, the founder of Digg, has expressed interest in acquiring Pocket, Mozilla’s read-it-later app, after Mozilla announced it would shut down Pocket on July 8, 2025. Mozilla cited evolving web usage and a need to focus on new development areas as reasons behind the closure. Rose, now co-founder of the revived Digg alongside Reddit’s Alexis Ohanian, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Digg would be happy to take over Pocket and continue supporting its users. The acquisition could benefit Digg by tapping into Pocket’s user base, potentially integrating it with Digg’s platform to enhance content discovery and sharing. This move comes as Digg, which has made a comeback under Rose and Ohanian, is working to revive its brand and expand its user base. Digg’s resurgence has drawn attention due to the involvement of high-profile figures like Ohanian and Christian Selig, the founder of the Apollo Reddit app. In 2023, Medium CEO Tony Stubbleine also considered buying Pocket, but Mozilla never responded. The news highlights the potential for Digg to leverage Pocket’s infrastructure and integrate its features into a revitalized Digg experience.
